This is a table of non-destructive testing (NDT) acceptance criteria for two materials, Steel and Aluminium, with different testing methods corresponding to different standards, as follows:
![]()
Visual inspection (VT)
- Steel: DIN EN ISO 5817, which specifies acceptance requirements for weld appearance quality, dimensional deviations, surface defects, etc. during visual inspection of steel materials.
- Aluminium: DIN EN ISO 10042 is used to regulate the acceptance criteria for visual inspection of aluminium materials, covering the qualification criteria for weld surface quality, shape and size, etc.
Radiographic testing (RT)
- Steel: DIN EN ISO 10675-1 sets out acceptance criteria for the type, size, quantity and distribution of internal defects (such as porosity, slag inclusions, incomplete penetration, etc.) during radiographic testing of steel materials.
- Aluminium: DIN EN ISO 10675-2, for radiographic inspection of aluminium materials, specifies the acceptance requirements for internal defects, used to determine whether the internal quality of welds and other parts of aluminium materials is qualified.
Ultrasonic testing (UT)
- Steel: Involving DIN EN ISO 11666, DIN EN ISO 23279, DIN EN ISO 22825, DIN EN ISO 15626, etc., comprehensive specification of acceptance criteria for detection, location, quantification and evaluation of defects in ultrasonic testing of steel materials, Different standards may focus on different aspects such as testing methods, defect assessment grades, etc.
- Aluminium: No specific standards are listed separately and may refer to some general standards for steel materials or other relevant standard systems.
Penetrant testing (PT)
- Steel and aluminium: Uniform use of DIN EN ISO 23277, which specifies the acceptance requirements for the display of surface open defects (such as cracks, porosity, etc.) in steel and aluminium materials during penetrant testing, including the rating level of defect display, permitted defect types and sizes, etc.
Magnetic particle testing (MT)
- Steel and aluminium: Acceptance criteria for surface and near-surface defects (applicable to ferromagnetic materials such as aluminium and aluminium alloys) in accordance with DIN EN ISO 23278 for magnetic particle inspection of steel and aluminium materials, such as evaluation of defect magnetic traces and determination of conformity.
Hardness testing (HT)
- Steel and aluminium: In accordance with DIN EN ISO 18265, this standard stipulates the acceptance requirements for the hardness test results of steel and aluminium materials, clarifies the qualified range of hardness values and other contents, and is used to assess whether the hardness of the materials meets the design and usage requirements.
